Scouts do stuff. They build things. Play with purpose. Make friends and work together. Set goals and achieve them. They go places. Physically. Mentally. Spiritually. These life-changing experiences — and the confidence they provide — form a foundation a Scout can stand on to embrace opportunity and overcome obstacles in life.

Benefits of Scouting

Scouting provides experiences that help prepare youth for their future. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.

Scouting fosters the spirit of discovery for future innovators and leaders by investing in new and relevant programs such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). These programs also provide youth with a platform to learn important life skills that help them combat major societal concerns.

Scouting provides youth with programs and activities that allow them the opportunity to :

Try new things
Provide service to others
Build self-confidence
Reinforce ethical decision making

As a community based humanitarian organization, the American Red Cross Minnesota Region prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of others.

American Red Cross Northern Minnesota serves communities across Rosseau, Lake of the Woods, Beltrami, Clearwater, Mahnomen, Hubbard, Wadena, Cass, Crow Wing, Aitkin, Itasca, Koochiching, Saint Louis, Carlton, Lake and Cook counties in Minnesota, and Douglas County in western Wisconsin. Also serves all tribal nations.  Volunteers are always in demand.

AFTER A DISASTER
After a disaster, communities and families turn to the Red Cross for help—and we stand ready to provide comfort and care—free of charge.

The Red Cross helps disaster victims by providing safe shelter, hot meals, essential relief supplies, emotional support and health services like first aid. Trained Red Cross workers often meet one-on-one with families to develop individual plans and identify available resources to help aid recovery.

Red Cross disaster relief focuses on relieving immediate disaster-caused needs so that families can get back on their feet and resume their lives as quickly as possible. The Red Cross also supports emergency workers, links family members outside the disaster area, and provides blood and blood products to disaster victims.

The Red Cross provides counseling, guidance, information, referrals and other social services for all military personnel and their families.

Deployment Services

A program of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota.  Financial counseling is available from Duluth.  LSS is not able to provide these services from it’s Bemidji office.

Budget and Debt Counseling:  Trained counselors help you develop a workable budget and an action plan to address all of your debts, and provide coaching and nonjudgmental counseling on all your options for debt repayment based on your individual situation.  Services are free.

Debt Management Plan:  A good solution if you are being buried in late fees and high interest or even if you are on time but just making no headway in paying down your debts.  On a debt management plan you pay your creditors through one payment each month to LSS, allowing a faster way to get debts paid off.
