Headwaters Science Center first opened its doors in July 1993 with a few home-made exhibits and a small gift store. By March 6, 1994, eleven large Science Carnival exhibits had arrived from Pacific Science Center and HSC celebrated the formal opening of its exhibit hall. Mission: To provide intellectual stimulation and enjoyment for children, adults, and educational organizations in northern Minnesota using hands-on science and technology exhibits and programs.
Vision: To inspire scientific discovery and love of learning for all.
Exhibits are hands on and illustrate aspects of science. Off-site demonstrations and programs are also possible. HSC’s 7500 square foot exhibit floor features over 40 engaging and hands-on exhibits including live animals. The Science Store features unique science and nature oriented gifts, books, and toys. Birthday parties and other celebrations can be accommodated, call for pricing and reservations.
Tots -n- Science (ages 3-6), Discovery Science (ages 5-8), Science Club (ages 7-13) provide age appropriate activities once per week.
Demonstrations and Hands-on Activities: Fee-based science programs provided by staff members upon request by school, group leaders, family birthday events, or others. Science demonstrations and outreach programs are available upon request and cover a wide variety of topics. Please call for pricing and reservations.
Science Workshops for Teachers and Science Kit Rentals: Grant supported or fee based workshops provided for K-12 teachers including kits that teachers may rent for a fee for classrooms. Educator Workshops and kits: Over 50 hands on science kits available to rent, covering a variety of topics. Workshops for educators held annualy, call for information.
