Evergreen Youth & Family Services is a community-based organization committed to strengthening youth, preserving families, and building relationships with an emphasis on those living in Northern Minnesota. Evergreen serves youth experiencing homelessness, runaways, and families in crisis by providing housing resources, youth crisis shelter, food & clothing, hot lunches 5 days/week, referrals, family support & parent coaching, mental health support, independent living skills, referrals to other community resources and more.

Wellness & Preventive Care

Gym Bin:  Gymnastics instruction for all levels from 3 years to Level 9 Aerials.  Home of the Bemidji High School Gymnastics Team.

Kindiland Learning Center:  A licensed day care for toddlers, preschool children and school aged children.  Open from 6:45am – 6:00pm each week day.  Full or part time options.  Family rates available.  Drop in care is offered based on availability and the completion of required paperwork.

Community Mental Health Center:
Provide psychotherapy to adults, adolescents and children as well as Psychological evaluations. Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Service (ARMHS), Children’s Therapeutic Support Services (CTSS) and Care Coordinators to assist with intakes

Substance Use Disorder (SUD):
Individual and group outpatient services for youth and adults; including Comprehensive Assessments.

Foster Care and Adoption:
Supporting adoptive parents with the matching process through finalization of a special needs child. Professional foster care for youth ages 0-21- and 24-hour case management services. Families must meet MN DHS requirements to become a licensed provider.

Winnie Way:
Therapeutic transitional living program, providing support to adolescent girls who have been sexually exploited and/or trafficked. Serves girls ages 16-21. Programming is client-centered approach and trauma-informed care model. Residents receive services tailored to their individual needs and treatment goals. Contact: Colbi Ikola @ 218-820-0121

Hawkins Home:
Transitional living program for girls ages 16-21. This home offers supportive and structured living environment with a focus on building the skills and competencies necessary for a successful transition into young adulthood. Exhibits are hands-on and illustrate aspects of science.  Off-site demonstrations and programs are also possible.  HSC’s 7500 square foot exhibit floor features over 50 engaging and hands-on exhibits including live animals.  The Science Store features unique science and nature-oriented gifts, books, and toys.  Birthday parties and other celebrations can be accommodated, call for pricing and reservations.

Tots on Tuesday  (ages 2 as well as older).  Science Summer Camps.   After School STEM.

….Bemidji Area Reading Canines, ages 6-12, read aloud to a specially trained dog to help youth build confidence in their reading skills.
….Technology Lab, ages 6-18, builds digital literacy by teaching kids how to use basic software and be safe online.
….Career Launch, ages 14-18, provides a range of services to guide Club members as they work toward high school graduation and prepare for post-secondary education and career success.
….Money Matters, ages 6-18, builds basic personal money management skills, including budgeting, saving and investing.
….National Fine Arts, ages 6-18, encourages artistic expression through drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, collage, mixed media and sculpture.

2.  Healthy lifestyles to help youth engage in positive behaviors that nurture well-being, set personal goals and grow into self-sufficient adults, including daily physical activity, healthy food choices and an appreciation for the outdoors.

….Healthy Habits, ages 6-18, incorporates healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience with an emphasis on good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being.
….Club greenhouse, ages 6-18, on-site greenhouse engages youth in gardening, including cultivation and harvesting, planning healthful meals and snacks and selling fresh produce to area businesses and the Bemidji School District.
….Laketrails, ages 12-18, introduces up to 15 Club members to the wilderness with an eight-day canoeing adventure on Lake of the Woods.
….Goals for Growth, ages 6-12, builds skills needed to set and achieve goals and maintain motivation.
….SMART Moves, ages 6-18, helps youth resist the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and avoid premature sexual activity.
….Leadership Club, ages 12-18, engages Club members in leadership within the Club. Participants assist Club staff in the gym, game room and kitchen and volunteer within the Club and the community.

3.  Character and leadership to empower youth to become engaged in the Club and the community, sustain meaningful relationships, respect one another and participate in the democratic process.
….Torch Club, ages 11-13, a small-group leadership and service club that focuses on service to Club and community, education, health and fitness and social recreation. Clubs can compete nationally for service awards.
….Keystone Club, ages 13-18, provides teens an opportunity to gain leadership and service experience as they conduct activities in three areas: academic success, career exploration and community service.
….Youth of the Year, ages 14-18, to recognize a teen Club member who exemplifies excellence in service to the Club, commitment to community and family, academic success, strong moral character, life goals and public speaking.
….Youth for Unity, ages 6-18, promotes and celebrates diversity while combating prejudice, bigotry and discrimination. Youth of all ages learn to appreciate themselves as unique and special individuals, understand diversity in society, recognize bias and unfairness and take personal leadership confronting bias.
….Year of Service Initiative, ages 6-18, focuses on a variety of events that provide opportunities for youth to engage as volunteers in the community or at the Club.

Recreation:  Camping, lodging, hiking trails, volleyball court, playground, picnic shelter, winter warming house, swimming beach, wheelchair accessible pier fishing, canoe access.

Shelter Space:  Space available for reservations:  Daily use dining hall for up to 120 people and a picnic shelter.

Building (Interest free home loans):

Northwoods Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent, affordable homes with selected partners who contribute 300 hours of sweat equity either by working on their own or other Habitat homes, or volunteering with Habitat and sells the home to the partner with a zero interest mortgage.  Must have the ability to pay long term (25-30 year) mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat.

Habitat Restore:

A building supply thrift store that sells donated surplus and gently used building materials, furniture, appliances and unique items to support H abitat’s building program and eliminate waste in our local landfills.

A Brush with Kindness (ABWK):

A nation-wide program that serves low-income homeowners struggling to maintain the exterior of their homes.  Assistance includes, but is not limited to, exterior repairs, (deck, sidewalk, ramp, painting, etc.) landscaping, and yard clean up.  For low income homeowners (seniors, veteran, people with disabilities).

Fostering communication, compassion and connection leading to respectful relationships and healthier individuals and communities.

Social Emotional Learning:  Training for  students and educators

ACEs Education: For educators and communities on Adverse Childhood Experiences and building resiliency

Cultural Responsiveness:  Consultation and training on how to respond to a wide variety of cultural perspectives.

Mindfulness training:  For students and educators

STAR (Students Teaching Attitudes of Respect): Youth leadership program for 6th-7th graders conducted in conjunction with the Northwest Minnesota Foundation.

Care beyond cost

We are committed to providing the best care for children in our specialty areas of Orthopaedics, Burn Care, Spinal Cord Injury, and Cleft Lip and Palate, regardless of a family’s ability to pay.

Orthopaedics

Northern Dental Access Center provides dental care for children and families enrolled in a Minnesota Health Care Program such as Medical Assistance and Minnesota Care.  Discounted dental care is also available for discounted cash rates to people who meet income guidelines.  Services offered include: Exams, Cleanings, Fillings, Dentures (under eligibility guidelines), Extractions, Root Canals and referrals for advanced care. Also available onsite is health insurance counseling and legal services.

The Al-Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope, in order to solve their common problems. We believe alcoholism is a family illness, and that changed attitudes can aid recovery.
Al-Anon is not allied with any sect, denomination, political entity, organization, or institution; does not engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any cause. There are no dues for membership. Al-Anon is self-supporting through its own voluntary contributions.
Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics. We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic.
