The Al-Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope, in order to solve their common problems. We believe alcoholism is a family illness, and that changed attitudes can aid recovery.
Al-Anon is not allied with any sect, denomination, political entity, organization, or institution; does not engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any cause. There are no dues for membership. Al-Anon is self-supporting through its own voluntary contributions.
Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics. We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic.
Minnesota 4-H youth development offers age-appropriate, hands-on learning via short and long-term projects and activities including: 4-H clubs, special interest groups, after school programs, volunteering, civic engagement, community service and school enrichment.
Bemidji Area Program for Recovery
(BAPR) is designed to help individuals experiencing difficulty in their lives due
to substance abuse and dependence. Education for domestic violence offenders as well as anger management for adults and juveniles.

Since opening in 2003, the American Indian Resource Center, AIRC, has offered academic programming for American Indian reservations and American Indian organizations throughout Minnesota. Because Bemidji State University is located between the three largest American Indian reservations in the State of Minnesota (Leech Lake is 15 miles south, Red Lake is 30 miles north and White Earth is 50 miles west of Bemidji), we have access to a large number of fluent speakers, spiritual leaders, Indian educators and cultural offerings that are all within a reasonable distance to the university. The AIRC is also home to the first Indian Studies program in Minnesota and the first collegiate Ojibwe language program in the world.
The Student Center for Health and Counseling is a comprehensive and integrated health care facility that includes both health and counseling services. We provide college students with access to primary health care, ongoing health maintenance, information about health and disease prevention, individualized personal counseling, group therapy, and a host of outreach health education programs. We also provide an integrated approach toward health care that meets individual needs of BSU & NTC students. Available to students enrolled at BSU or NTC.

Anishinabe Legal Services is a Legal Services Corporation (LSC) grantee and independent 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides free legal assistance to low-income individuals living on or near the Leech Lake, Red Lake, & White Earth Reservations in Northwestern Minnesota.
ALS represents clients before tribal courts, state courts, and agencies to help them protect their rights. Anishinabe Legal Services has offices in Leech Lake, Red Lake, and White Earth.
Residents of Leech Lake, White Earth, and Red Lake reservations whose income and assets fall within the financial eligibility guidelines. Services are also provided to residents of Leech Lake, White Earth, Grand Portage, and Bois Forte who are 60 and older regardless of income.
Adult Day Services of Bemidji offers a reliable, caring and supportive environment where Seniors of varying abilities can go for socialization, healthy meals, health observation, and recreation. Seniors and their caregivers may choose Adult Day Services as a respite option or as a place for the Senior to be while the caregiver is at work all day. Support services are available for the caregivers as they transition their family member into higher degrees of service.
Adult Day Services promotes healthy aging with the focus to improve and enhance overall wellness.
Through a System of supportive services in one location the program conveniently assists people experiencing isolation due to physical and psychosocial demands. Attendance maintains and/or increases independence for older adults. Participants can continue to live at home and remain an active part of family and community.
Adult Day Services has handicap buses available to transport Seniors to and from their homes within a 10 mile radius of Bemidji. The buses are available for use by the public if the drivers participate in training, have appropriate licensure and insurance and are approved by ADS. Funding is provided by United Way and CADI. ADS clients are charged 50 cents per mile, billable to MA.
As a recent victim or witness to a crime, you play an important role in the criminal justice process. The Beltrami County Attorney’s Office can help you navigate the criminal justice system by assisting you in understanding your rights as a victim and completing a Victim Impact Statement. We also provide:
- Referrals for you and your family for counseling or assistance from Community Resources that we partner with
- Education about the criminal justice system and your role as a victim or witness to a crime
- Help with intimidation or coercion by the defendant, involving local law enforcement agencies as necessary
- Updates on your case and the procedures being followed
- Familiarization with the courtroom if you are asked to testify
- Assistance in obtaining time off from your job to testify in court
- Information on applying for assistance from either the defendant or the Minnesota Reparations Board

The American Cancer Society offers free comprehensive cancer information with day to day emotional support, and a 24 hour information phone line. Free temporary lodging in the Twin Cities or Rochester for families who must travel outside their community for care. CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (CCAP)
Child care assistance is available to parents who are receiving assistance under the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) and parents whose income is at or below 175% of the Federal Poverty guideline and are in an approved activity. It is important for parents to know their child is well-cared for while they are at work, looking for work, obtaining training or going to school in order to secure employment. Application is required to have eligibility determined. CCAP may not cover all child care costs. Parental amounts depend on the family’s income, the number of people in the family, and how much the child care provider charges. The goal is to assist the family to maintain employment and gain self-sufficiency.
CHILD SUPPORT
Every child needs financial and emotional support and every child has the right to support from both parents. Minnesota’s child support program benefits children by enforcing parental responsibility for child support.
Either parent of a child may apply or qualify for certain support services from the Child Support Unit. Depending on the circumstances associated with the case, there may be fees assessed for collection unless the applicant receives public assistance (Minnesota Family Investment Program, Medical Assistance, MinnesotaCare, or Childcare Assistance.)

What are the eligibility requirements for living at the Bemidji Veterans Home?
Individuals must demonstrate a medical or clinical need for admission and be:
- Discharged under honorable conditions from any branch of the U.S. armed forces and is a current resident of Minnesota, who served 181 consecutive days on active duty, unless discharged earlier because of disability incurred in the line of duty. Defined in Minnesota Statute 197.447
- The spouse of an eligible Veteran who is at least 55 years old and meets residency requirements.
