Options is a non-profit organization committed to assisting individuals with disabilities to live independently in the communities of their choice and to eliminate barriers of attitude, architecture and communication from the environment.
Options: Interstate Resource Center for Independent Living (IRCIL) is a Resource Center for Independent Living. We are a private, nonprofit center that provides services to maximize the independence of individuals with disabilities. We are funded by various State and Federal grants, as well as private donations.
We are a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability, non-residential center that is designed and operated within a local community by individuals with disabilities and provide an array of independent living services . Our services are free of charge to individuals requesting them. Since October 1986, Options: IRCIL has worked to make our service area a better place to live, work and play for people with disabilities.
We serve counties in Northeast North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota.
North Dakota counties include: Benson, Cavalier, Grand Forks, Griggs, Nelson, Pembina, Ramsey, Steele, Towner, Traill, Walsh, Wells, Eddy and Foster.
Minnesota counties include: Kittson, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, Roseau, Lake of the Woods, Beltrami, Clearwater, and Hubbard.
The Blackduck Area History and Art Center (BAHAC) is located at the top of the Lady Slipper Scenic Byway in northern Minnesota. Although some artifacts are specific to this area, we provide a “stepping back in time” experience that can be enjoyed whether you are specifically interested in this area, or history in general. The displays excite children as well as adults, and indeed we feel a special mission to bring the past to life for children.
The co-located TIN PAN gALLErY focuses on giving local artists a place to showcase their works. Featured artists’ shows are generally on display for a month. In between shows there is always an interesting variety of art on exhibit. We have truly fulfilled our mission of providing art opportunities for all ages, as we have featured everything from pre-school and kindergarten art project displays to a special artist show for an artist in her eighth decade.
We live in a resort area with unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation amidst our scenic forests, lakes and bogs. Although we are a small town we draw people from a large area. We feel fortunate to have a library, movie theater, bowling alley, golf course, city park, restaurants and some pretty interesting shopping opportunities. People travel for miles to visit and shop at Anderson Fabrics Outlet Store. Nearby attractions include the Big Bog State Park, The Lost 40, Chippewa National Forest campgrounds, Camp Rabideau (the most well-preserved CCC Camp in the nation – a National Historic Landmark) and the Lady Slipper Scenic Byway, to name a few. CHI St. Joseph’s Health Hospice Care is a Medicare-certified, Joint Commission approved hospice program. Hospice provides high quality care to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of seriously ill and dying patients and their loved ones. Hospice gives individualized care to patients who have Alzheimer’s disease or dementias, cancer, heart, lung, kidney or liver disease, stroke or coma, Parkinson’s or ALS and other end stage chronic illnesses. Hospice provides care to promote comfort, dignity, and quality of life on the end-of-life journey. Patients and their loved ones decide what care and help best suits their needs. Hospice recognizes and responds to the needs of surviving loved ones through bereavement support.

Northern Dental Access Center provides dental care for children and families enrolled in a Minnesota Health Care Program such as Medical Assistance and Minnesota Care. Discounted dental care is also available for discounted cash rates to people who meet income guidelines. Services offered include: Exams, Cleanings, Fillings, Dentures (under eligibility guidelines), Extractions, Root Canals and referrals for advanced care. Also available onsite is health insurance counseling and legal services.
Available 6 days a week (sometimes more). Able to transport 2 people in wheel chairs and a mobile person. Billable to Medical Assistance, as well as private, per mile, payers.
- Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT): They help individuals get to medical appointments, often focusing on seniors or those with disabilities, potentially handling various needs like ambulatory or wheelchair transport, though you’d confirm details with them.
- Community Transport: They assist with getting to other essential services in the Bemidji area
A safe and friendly fishing experience for those living at home with support services, individuals living independently, seniors, Veterans, and people with disabilities.
A nighttime shelter for chronic homeless people struggling with chemical dependency. Able to house 16 people during the winter months. Serving single adults 18+ years old, male or female. Showers and laundry facilities are available on site. Clients CAN be intoxicated upon arrival. Hours of access: 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The Region 2 Adult Mental Health Initiative (AMHI) is one of 19 similar initiatives throughout the state of Minnesota that were established by the MN Department of Human Services in 1996 with the goal of increasing community integration and supports for adults with mental illness. AMHIs are regional collaborations that oversee adult mental health services and funding in their area. Each AMHI is a unique partnership of individuals with lived experience, counties, tribes, and providers working together to positively impact mental health service delivery in their region. Additional background information about regional AMHIs as well as examples of the types of programs and services funded by these initiatives can be found here.
Region 2 AMHI is comprised of Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, and Lake of the Woods counties and is governed by the Health and Human Services directors for these counties. Together with community members with lived experience, tribal nations, and local service providers we make decisions and conduct activities to raise awareness of mental health challenges and opportunities in our community.
