The White Earth Economic Development Office (WEEDO) works to support, retain and foster existing entrepreneurships on the White Earth Reservation, and to attract new businesses which enhance career opportunities for tribal citizens, enabling them to work on the reservation while preserving the integrity of their rich cultural heritage.

We at the Elderly Nutrition Program serve and deliver a meal to the elders and handicapped, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We also provide the elders and handicapped with a casino card that allows $40 free play and a $10 meal once a month from the 7 Clans Casino of their choice.

Each December, we host a Christmas Party/Dinner for all Elders on the reservation. There is entertainment, a meal, candy bags, gift cards and lots of fun!

Currently, we have about 250 Elders who are on home-bound, which means they get their meal delivered every day. An additional 50-60 come in to eat daily.

We also attend the Minneapolis Urban Picnic to distribute casino cards to Elders who live in the metro area(s).

Meals are also served and delivered to the Elders and handicapped at the Ponemah site.

The Ponemah program delivers to about 32 home-bound and 40 to 50 Elders/Handicapped come in to eat.

Ponemah takes the Elders that need to run into Bemidji on Wednesdays. They also go to one of the 7 Clans Casinos on the first Saturday of every month.

Leech Lake Food Distribution Program provides a healthy food packages to eligible households on a monthly basis. Our service areas are for low-income households that reside on or near Reservation boundaries, households that live off the Reservation have to provide a Tribal lD that shows they are enrolled in a federally recognized tribe. Households cannot participate in the Food Distribution Program and the Snap Program in one given month.

Eligibility Requirements

• Enrolled members and non-members within the Leech Lake Reservation boundaries
• Live in our service area for at least 30 days

You must reapply and verify each October.

Funded by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Red Lake Food Distribution Program is instrumental in providing food to the residents of the reservation.

The program has two food programs: Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) and Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).

FDPIR assists households with food support on a monthly basis to those that qualify by income and residence.

CSFP is the supplemental food program that assists elders (60 and over) with food support on a monthly basis.

Medical Transportation is provided for the people to the Red Lake Hospital, Ponemah Clinic and medical facilities off the reservation.

Patients are transported to Minneapolis, Rochester, Duluth, St. Cloud, Minnesota, Fargo, Grand Forks, North Dakota and other towns as directed by the Medical Staff. Medical transportation is provided to the Red Lake Hospital, Ponemah Clinic and to the Bemidji Hospital and Clinics on a daily basis.

Elder and Vulnerable Adult Program

White Earth Elder/Vulnerable Adult program provides the following services:

• Develop programs to be sustainable and fully maximizing resources to meet the needs of Elder’s and Vulnerable Adults
• Provide Services such as case management, referrals, and other services upon request.
• Coordinate and process Travel to and from medical appointments and other appointments the elders may have.
• Represent and help client with court proceedings.
• Collaborate with other programs to ensure clients’ needs are met in their homes.
• Ensure client is living in a safe environment.
• Assess client’s needs.

The White Earth Reservation Tribal DOVE (Down ON Violence Everyday) Program serves victims of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Stalking, Dating Violence, Elder Abuse, Trafficking and General Crime and provides services to Native and non-Native women, men and youth who live on or near the White Earth Reservation.

The Omiimii Wadiswan Equay Shelter provides temporary shelter to Native American and Non-Native female victim/survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or trafficking.

The potential resident must be 18 years old or older and currently be in or leaving an abusive relationship, be a victim of sexual assault who fears for her safety, or be a victim of stalking or human trafficking.

Potential residents will be prioritized for shelter services based on their need for safety and level of danger/lethality risk. Priority will be given to Native American women living on or near the White Earth Reservation.

Minor male children, 16 years or younger will be permitted to reside in the shelter with their parent or guardian determined on a case by case basis.
