Great River Rescue is a no-kill, 501(c)3 non-profit animal shelter dedicated to housing cats and dogs for the purpose of transitioning them to loving forever homes. Great River Rescue serves as a community resource, and advocates for kind, responsible pet care, encouraging a community of responsible companion animal guardians, eliminating the community’s need to euthanize dogs and cats as a means of population control, and promoting a society where companion animals become more valued.

Great River Rescue operates a low-cost spay/neuter and animal wellness program, Pet Fixers. Clinics are held one or two weekends per month from April to November. Student First: A school-based, community-driven program that helps youth identify their strengths and empowers theme to pursue their life goals. Support and guidance are provided to students by professional program staff and a one-on-one, caring adult Success Coach. Located at Bemidji Middle School, Bemidji High School and Kelliher Public Schools.
Bemidji Middle School Truancy Tracker Program: Provides mentoring, tutoring, adult role models and any other necessary means of support to youths in Grades 6-8 to help identify and address issues contributing to truancy.
Re-Engagement Case Management: Provides case management services to students with attendance issues who attend Bemidji High School, Voyageurs Expeditionary School, and Blackduck Schools to reduce truant behavior and prevent court involvement.
Truancy Case Management: Provides case management services to students and families who are involved in the Court system due to truancy.
As a community based humanitarian organization, the American Red Cross Minnesota Region prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of others.
American Red Cross Northern Minnesota serves communities across Rosseau, Lake of the Woods, Beltrami, Clearwater, Mahnomen, Hubbard, Wadena, Cass, Crow Wing, Aitkin, Itasca, Koochiching, Saint Louis, Carlton, Lake and Cook counties in Minnesota, and Douglas County in western Wisconsin. The Red Cross helps disaster victims by providing safe shelter, hot meals, essential relief supplies, emotional support and health services like first aid. Trained Red Cross workers often meet one-on-one with families to develop individual plans and identify available resources to help aid recovery.
Red Cross disaster relief focuses on relieving immediate disaster-caused needs so that families can get back on their feet and resume their lives as quickly as possible. The Red Cross also supports emergency workers, links family members outside the disaster area, and provides blood and blood products to disaster victims.

Tri-Valley Heartland Express Bus provides transportation services to the general public in six counties, Polk, Red Lake, Norman, Marshall, and Pennington, and Bagley in Clearwater County. Buses run through these counties on various days and destinations. Public transit buses are available with no age limits or income requirements to ride the bus. Buses have a comfortable 19-25 seating capacity with at least two wheel chair tie downs and a dependable wheel chair lift Transportation service is used for a variety of reasons, which include medical, nutritional, social, recreational, shopping and other personal activities with destinations such as Grand Forks, Bemidji, Thief River Falls, Fargo/Moorhead and Crookston. Tri-Valley Heartland Express provides safe, friendly and dependable transportation to the citizens of the rural area at a reasonable price. Call for a schedule. In Crookston, Thief River Falls, and Bagley the Tri-Valley Heartland Express offers subscription service and general dial a ride service. People that need the transportation on a regular basis at the same time would be considered a subscription service customer. Whether it’s for work, play, rehab or fun, one call, that’s all it takes to set up the subscription service ride. When you call for a ride the bus will pick you up in front of the place you want and drop you off right in front of the place you want to go. A 24 hour notice is encouraged to guarantee your ride. All this for $1.50.
The Tri-Valley Heartland Express can take you where you want to go. For parents this could be a blessing on wheels. Running from 7:30 am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday, the Bus can pick up and deliver children, adults, and young adults anywhere in Crookston, Thief River Falls, and Bagley including after school classes, or daycare, community events, recreation events, and entertainment activities. Park Place of Bemidji is a sixty unit supportive housing development that provides safe, stable housing with services. Forty units serve adults who have been long-term homeless and have a Substance Abuse Disorder while the other twenty units are efficiency apartments for individuals who have been long-term homeless.
The goal of the Victim Services Program is to help ease the physical, emotional, and financial misfortunes caused by criminal victimization and to reduce the confusion and inconvenience that may be caused by involvement in the criminal justice system.

The Bemidji Area Office (BAO) provides service and support to 34 Federally-recognized Tribes and 4 Urban Indian Health programs located in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Tribal Health services are provided through 11 P.L. 93-638 Title V compacts and 23 Title I contracts. Urban Indian Health programs are located in Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Milwaukee, WI; and Minneapolis, MN. Tribes in the Bemidji Area include Ojibwe (Chippewa), Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Mohican, Oneida, Odawa, Potawatomi, and Sioux.
The BAO operates 3 Federal/direct service programs on behalf of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians and the White Earth Band of Chippewa Indians of Minnesota. These Federal/direct service programs, Cass Lake Hospital, Red Lake Hospital, and White Earth Health Center, are staffed by approximately 500 federal civil service employees and Public Health Service (PHS) Commissioned Officers. These federal employees are comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, laboratory technicians, radiology technicians, behavioral health practitioners, dentists, dental assistants, dental hygienists, optometrists, optical technicians, dietitians, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physical therapists, engineers, sanitarians, equipment technicians, health information managers, administrators, acquisition, supply, finance, information technology and clerical staff. In addition, there are numerous specialty clinics provided in our Federal/direct service programs by local private health care specialists.
Tribal and Urban programs directly employ a multitude of health care providers and allied staff such as, mental health, substance abuse counselors, and community health nurses and representatives. Services not available through Tribal or BAO Federal/direct service programs may be delivered through Contract Health Services (CHS).

Headwaters Music & Arts is an independent non-profit located in downtown Bemidji. Our mission is to provide opportunities for creativity through instruction and inspire the community through music and the arts. We believe that we can further enrich the health and wellness of individuals and the community by offering exceptional music and art education programs and events to all.
Our music program includes one-on-one music lessons on a wide variety of instruments as well as vocal instruction, pre-school parent-child music classes, and music enrichment events. Community initiatives include a senior chorus, bell choir, and monthly open mic nights. Art offerings include pottery for youth and adults, child and teen after school art clubs, and workshops and classes for kids and adults. Financial assistance is available for most youth activities.
Baker Park is a residence for elderly individuals located in Bemidji, Minnesota. The facility is situated in a picturesque lakeside setting within a short distance of the downtown area with shopping, library, transportation, recreational facilities, and many churches nearby. It has easy bus access to the hospital, medical clinic, and shopping mall.
Eligibility Criteria
Age – 62 and older
Financial – HUD guidelines impose income limits and require that tenants generally pay 30 percent of adjusted gross income toward their rent. Income limits change. Please check on current limits.
Community Living at Baker Park – A person may be considered capable of living in a community setting at Baker Park if he/she is able to live up to the terms of the lease and can handle the activities of daily living.
Lease – Tenants are required to sign a one-year lease upon move-in.
There is no office so please call our number and leave a voicemail. We will get back to you within a few hours. We offer person-to-person service and support to individuals in need with such items as food/gas/clothing vouchers, utilities, rent, deposits, repairs, etc. We then schedule a home visit or meet with you in Bemidji. Even while we may be able to help with some immediate need, financial or household items, our primary focus is to partner with you and help you in the long term.
A nighttime shelter for chronic homeless people struggling with chemical dependency. Able to house 16 people during the winter months. Serving single adults 18+ years old, male or female. Showers and laundry facilities are available on site. Clients CAN be intoxicated upon arrival. Hours of access: 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Community Behavioral Health Hospitals are short-term, acute psychiatric hospitals. They employ evidence-based practices, which are methods of treatment that research has demonstrated are effective in supporting people with mental illness in their recovery.
Intensive, multidisciplinary services provided by the hospitals include:
* Assessment of mental, social, and physical health by psychiatrists, clinical nurse specialists, advanced practice nurses, psychologists, clinical social workers, medical physicians, and other rehabilitation therapists, as appropriate
* Development of an individual treatment plan, including medication management and 24-hour nursing care
* Active mental health treatment and programming, including the integration of important aspects of the Illness Management and Recovery model of care. This model is an individualized, person-centered approach that includes the family and community in treatment planning and implementation.
* Individualized discharge planning and collaboration with patients, family members, significant others as well as county social services and mental health case managers for transitioning back to an appropriate setting in the community.
Staffed 24 hours a day, the hospitals each employ about 35 staff, including mental health professionals specializing in psychiatry, nursing, psychology, and social work.
This provider is a Medicare Certified psychiatric hospital by the Minnesota Department of Health and is subject to periodic health and safety inspections by the Department of Health or an approved accrediting agency.
