The Cass Lake-Bena Schools are located on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation and proudly serves a student population rich in Ojibwe culture and history. The student body is comprised of 90% American Indian students. Indian studies classes in language, history, and culture are offered to all students in all grades.

The Area Learning Center provides a rigorous curriculum that demands a high level of engagement in academics, positive behaviors, exemplary attendance, social skill building and teamwork, which allows hands-on, project-based, community service projects to connect to real world learning. The MN Graduation Standards are embedded in the curriculum. Students receive instruction in a variety of ways and settings.
- Individualized Instruction: CLPs (Continual Learning Plans) are tailored to meet the student’s academic needs and interests.
- Intensives: Focus on a particular topic covering all academic disciplines for a short, intensive amount of time with a variety of fieldwork in different core classes.
- Adventure/Fitness: Innovative Physical Education Curriculum that focuses on fitness, wellness, and nutrition.
- In-Depth Investigation: Interesting, purposeful, engaging investigation of compelling topics. Reading and writing activities are embedded throughout the board.
- Independent Study: Students many take advantage of a wide spectrum of classes at the ALC by enrolling Dual-Enrolled or Full-Time. This program also offeres Teen Parenting Classes
Registered nurses that offer support to families through education, assessment, skilled nursing, referral networking, and incentives.
We believe in You ~ is the foundation of our home visiting program for any pregnant woman, mother or caregiver of children up to the age of 3. Dads are encouraged to participate and are welcomed. We encourage self development and support positive decision making skills for the strengthening of our families and their futures.
We believe in You ~ when life is going well, complicated or the worst you feel it can be. We are here to help you see the strength you have within. This program supports the Native American families that are IHS eligible as well.
The Cass Lake Indian Health Service Unit is owned and operated by the Federal Government as a Public Health Service, Indian Health Service Facility. It provides over 160 full-time jobs in the community. The Service Unit operates a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) and Outpatient Ambulatory Care Clinic that offers Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, Physical Therapy, Audiology, Podiatry, and Optometry Services. Cass Lake IHS also provides 24/7 access to Urgent Care/Emergency Care services.
The Service Unit has an active user population of 12,265 clients. The CAH has 4 beds and 1 crib. In Fiscal Year 2014, we had 66 discharges, 379 patients days, 97,773 out-patient visits (includes UC/ER, Pharmacy, etc.) and 7,653 dental visits. The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe manages the Behavioral Health programs, Substance Abuse programs, a Diabetes Center and Public Health Nursing at six community based clinics on the reservation.
The Leech Lake Anishinaabe Women’s Halfway House treatment component is a seven bed facility designed to work with the client as a “whole”, Native American 12 step approach. We provide individual counseling, groups, Cognitive Behavioral therapies, Service coordination, relapse education as well as incorporating women’s issues, with a special focus on trauma, grief and loss for a total or minimum of 15 hours per week of treatment.
Programs include Leech Lake Head Start, Early Head Start, Child Care Services, Leech Lake Child Care Aware Baseline, and MN Tribal Resources for Early Childhood Care (MN TREC). Services are available to ages 6 weeks through 5 years.

Akeley Regional Community Center is a not for profit thrift store. Many new items come to the thrift store every day. Great for back to school shopping, supplying a dorm room, changing your decor and a great book room to update reading material.
The ARCC also has a meeting room, gymnasium, library, and an archery club all available for use.

The ARCC Emergency Shelter’s mission is to provide safe shelter and supportive services to those experiencing intimate partner violence.
The shelter will provide residents with access to supportive services including food, clothing, laundry facilities, access to the ARCC library and computers, referrals to other agencies, and a listening ear.
Great River Rescue is a no-kill, 501(c)3 non-profit animal shelter dedicated to housing cats and dogs for the purpose of transitioning them to loving forever homes. Great River Rescue serves as a community resource, and advocates for kind, responsible pet care, encouraging a community of responsible companion animal guardians, eliminating the community’s need to euthanize dogs and cats as a means of population control, and promoting a society where companion animals become more valued.

Great River Rescue operates a low-cost spay/neuter and animal wellness program, Pet Fixers. Clinics are held one or two weekends per month from April to November. Adult Day Services of Bemidji offers a reliable, caring and supportive environment where Seniors of varying abilities can go for socialization, healthy meals, health observation, and recreation. Seniors and their caregivers may choose Adult Day Services as a respite option or as a place for the Senior to be while the caregiver is at work all day. Support services are available for the caregivers as they transition their family member into higher degrees of service.
Adult Day Services has handicap buses available to transport Seniors to and from their homes within a 10 mile radius of Bemidji. The buses are available for use by the public if the drivers participate in training, have appropriate licensure and insurance and are approved by ADS. Funding is provided by United Way and CADI. ADS clients are charged 50 cents per mile, billable to MA.

The Headwaters Regional Development Commission (HRDC) works to ensure quality affordable housing options for low and moderate income households throughout the region. Paul Bunyan Transit provides public transportation for Beltrami County and the city of Bemidji. Roseau County the cities of Roseau and Warroad. Lake of the Woods County in Baudette. Our Service Area in Bemidji is a 10 mile radius of City Hall. In the Roseau and Warroad communities the Service Area is a 4 mile radius of the center of each town. In Baudette we provide service to the Lakes Road and to the Clementson area.
Each additional stop will cost an additional fare.
